Carrick-a-Rede, close to Fairview Holiday Home Ireland

The rocky island connected to the cliffs by a swinging 80 ft high rope bridge. You can avail of the guided tours as well as the children's trails. The surrounding cliffs off the Larrybane headland are impressive but beware, for although no one has ever been injured on [or falling from!] the bridge, many a visitor has found themselves being unable to face the return walk back across the bridge, resulting in them being taken off the island by boat! Carrick-a-Rede Bridge is a mere 20 minutes from Fairview.

Dunluce, close to Fairview Holiday Home Ireland

The spectacular castle-crowned crag was shaped when the sea chiselled deep into the rock cliff. Part of the castle broke off and the kitchen plunged into the sea, during a storm one night, killing all the cooks and kitchen-hands. There remains a dark hollow. At Dunluce Castle, you'll see why it's considered by many to be one of the most picturesque and romantic of Irish castles. The castle has a visitor centre and a shop, and guided tours are available. Dunluce Castle is at the end of Ballyclogh Road, just 5 minutes from Fairview.

The town's name is derived from the River Bush, one of Northern Ireland's best salmon rivers. A bright and scenic town with a pleasant beach and views across to Rathlin Island and the Mull of Kintyre, Ballycastle is at the northern mainland limit of the Antrim Coast and Glens Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Most of the historic character of the 19th century settlement of Cushendall on the northbank of the River Dall still remains, for example, the ruins of the Franciscan Layde Church. Well known for trad Irish music, Cushendall hosts the Heart Of The Glens festival each August. Cushendall is only 50 minutes from Fairview. On the mouth of the River Dun, Cushendun has a Cornish appearance. The village is unspoilt being largely owned by the National Trust. Ideal for fishing, walking or just relaxing, the quiet village of Armoy is on the River Bush, situated between two of the nine Glens of Antrim, Glenshesk and Glentaisie. Of historical fascination are the remains of a round tower on the edge of the village beside which an early monastery was founded about AD460 by Saint Olcan, a disciple of Saint Patrick. Incidentally, at Saint Patrick’s Church you’ll find an ancestral link to Oscar Wilde. The Old Bushmills Distillery is the oldest legal whiskey distillery in the world, established, and granted license to distil whiskey by James 1st in 1608. The Distillery was rebuilt in 1885 after being destroyed by a fire and the Victorian architecture of the buildings are in evidence today. Game Angling - Salmon, sea trout, brown and rainbow trout are found in abundance in the local rivers Bush, Bann (Lower), Agivey and some ‘put and take’ lakes. Game Fishing is seasonal and as such, activity is confined from 1 March to 31 October. Coarse Angling - Popular stretches for bream, eel, perch, pike and roach on the Lower Bann at Portna and Movanagher. Sea Angling - The waters around Portrush and the North Coast are rich in fish and ideal for boat anglers. There is also excellent rock and beach fishing.
